Online purchases from international platforms such as Temu will be subject to taxation startingOctober 1, 2026, Finance Minister Victoria Belous said during theRezoomatprogram on Realitatea TV. According to the minister, the measure comes amid a rapid increase in the number of parcels ordered from abroad. The Finance Ministry argues that the measure is intended to create fairer conditions for local businesses, which pay VAT, customs duties, taxes and social contributions for their employees. “We need to establish a balance and ensure fairness for local entrepreneurs who import goods, pay VAT, customs duties, taxes and local fees, as well as social contributions,” Belous explained. According to the minister, international online platforms are putting increasing pressure on Moldovan businesses because goods are delivered to the country without the commercial activity being taxed in the same way as that of local economic operators.
