The move follows a wave ofconsumer collective claims against the companyin recent years, ranging from allegations of data privacy breaches to lawsuits targeting its subscription practices, return policies and pricing models. Amazon first added mandatory arbitration and class-action waivers to its consumer terms in 2011, later removing the arbitration requirement in 2021. However, in an about-turn, the company’s updated conditions of use for US customers state that “any dispute or claim relating in any way to your use of any Amazon service, or to any products or services sold or distributed by Amazon or through amazon. If a resolution is not reached within 60 days, binding arbitration may be initiated, administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures.
